Creative writting assingment! first 1000 words :D

We begin this story with Fernando a very wealthy guy, born at Oviedo, Asturias, a northern west district of the beautiful country Spain. A famous journalist, Olvido, is interviewing Fernando; she wants to find out how was Fernando’s experience in the psychiatric hospital of Madrid, from where he just came out after a two years treatment. Olvido wants to know a lot about him, due to his testimony, being the first person ever cured from this kind of trauma, she also wants to know how such a wealthy guy ends up homeless in the streets of the capital of Spain.

“What would you like to know?” Fernando proclaimed when he saw Olvido entering the room. “I would like to know more about you, I want to find out how was your life five years ago, and how have you changed, what has changed form you, why did you ended up requiring a treatment of two years in the best Psychiatric hospital in the country.” “Well if you want to figure all, you should now the basic information.” “Yes you are right, I just taught it would be easier for you to start with the most recent events” “ Its fine, but lets start I have an appointment later and we don’t have that much time here. When I was a kid my dad and I always talked of our dream, the dream consisted that we would start a family hotel that hopefully with the past of time would grow into a chain of hotels, as you may know we accomplished this.” “ Yes Fernando in fact the ‘luques’ hotels are very well known not only in the country but in an international level as well.” “Well back in the time, I spent a lot of quality time with my dad in which we talked a lot about business, dreams, school, sports and many other things, boy I miss my dad.” “How did he leave you?”  “As you know my dad passed away in 1995, just when we opened our third hotel, this was one of the most hard events that have ever happened to me in my life, well you know this one and the loss of my family.” “ Yes I know all of these, as you know your dad is a very important business man, I interviewed him a couple of times. That is why I am interviewing you; I want to end your family history.” “ Well thank you very much it is a pleasure to be part of your book.”

Fernando and Olvido departed from the park, to el café de los espejos one of the most famous café’s in Spain, where they keep talking about Fernando’s childhood. In these series of questions Olvido founds out the reason of why Fernando was so close to his dad. She gets to know that Fernando’s mum Marta left the house with Fernando’s older brother Luis. They left when Fernando was three years old. On their chat at the café Olvido asks Fernando where did he study, what school, what college and what carrier. “I entered Colegio liceo Madrid when I was four years old. I graduated from that school and went to the Universidad Nevrija where I studied business and management, and did a master on tourism.” “ That is very interesting, now please tell me when did you opened your first hotel and how many do you have right now.” “Well our first hotel was opened on November 1990 on Madrid, the hotel was ranked a five stars hotel on April in 1991, within one year we had recovered our money inversion and we began to produce profit out of it. In 1995 we opened our third hotel, and we were cataloged one of the five best hotels in Spain. In 1998 I opened my first Hotel outside form Spain, in Paris and it was very successful. So far I have a total of 10 hotels all a round Europe, but due to my treatment and my trauma, Luis my older brother is in charge of them right now.” “ Oh yes of course your trauma, when did it start, could you tell me something about it?” “Oh my trauma, yes I will, it is a long story. Three years ago, I was planning a vacation trip to Italy, we were going to go to the opening of my newest hotel in Milan, and it was my son, Enrique’s birthday so we had planned a family trip”. “Yes, yes so what happened afterwards?” “Well we were on the airport waiting for the plain to depart, but I got a call, the vice-president of my company called me with terrible news, a huge problem happened in the hotel at Madrid and Barcelona, a problem that I had to solve personally, so I told my wife and Enrique that they should catch the flight and that I would take the flight of the next day. I said good bye and left to the hotel in order to solve the problem.” “ Fernando are you okay, some tears are coming from you, we can talk about these later” “No, no its fine, its just every time I remember this I get really sad because these was the last time I saw them” “What happened then?” “well I went back to the hotel, I fixed the problem and got my tickets for the next day, I arrived to Milan and looked for them, but I couldn’t find them, so I went to the airport and received the bad news, the plain in which they were had an accident, and there were just five survivors out of the crash, unlucky for me, neither my wife or my son were part of those survivors.” “I’m very sorry, Fernando, I know that I am interviewing you, but if you need help or someone to talk with you can count with me.”  “Thank you very much, I really appreciate it, I was wondering if we could continue the interview tomorrow thinking of all these gave me a terrible head ache.” “Yes its fine ill see you tomorrow, hope that it gets better.”

Web blog 17 the tragedy of Julius Caesar

All along the story of the tragedy of Julius Caesar we have gotten to know the main Characters.  One of the main characters and I would risk to say one that will play an immense job during this story is Cassius. By giving a closer look to cassius I could sense since the begging that he is planning something secret, something that will surprise the main authority and in these case its Caesar who rules over Cassius.

Cassius is planning on killing Caesar; first of all he thinks that Caesar does not disserve such an honorable recognition as being the King of Rome is and was in that time. He also seems to be jealous from the power that Caesar has and doesn’t like to be commanded.

Cassius knows that he wont be able to do these by himself, not only by the protection that Caesar has but also the experience that Caesar has. Therefore he has come to create a conspiracy against him.  In these conspiracy he tries to get people who he knows that have power and are in the group of trusted of Caesar but also those who agree with him. Thus far Brutus the military commander has been the one that has caused more trouble and more challenge from Cassius to convince. What Cassius does is that he degrades Caesar so that Brutus can see why he is no one special with other characteristics than the normal ones, he sees that this is not working very well so he has to question Brutus if he thinks that he is being a honorable man to the people who don’t what Caesar to be crowned   and has asked him by letters not to do it.

So far he has not gotten Brutus to join his secret conspiracy against Brutus but he has planted the seed of the doubt in Brutus head in which he debates if he is doing the right thing.

After advancing a little more we can see that Brutus accepts Cassius claim and joins the conspiracy, so we can say that so far Cassius plan is working and he has defeated the loyalty of many for Caesar.

The next thing that we need to discover is whether or not  he will be le to accomplish his ultimate goal and kill Caesar.

Analyzis of Phoebe

 

We first meet Phoebe the bottom of page 161. She displays some qualities and idiosyncrasies that otherwise Holden has found despicable in others such as interest in the new types of gadgets in cars, wanting to direct the conversation without regards to the needs of the person listening, naming people as a conversation, watches and criticizes movies, etc. Why do you believe Holden doesn’t draw the same conclusions about Phoebe that the does about the others he interacts with and accuses of phoniness?

Holden seems to finally be calmed in a conversation, when he isn’t thinking, “ that is phony”, “he is a moron” or in other of the multiple negative aspects that somehow he can find in everyone, from the text we can see how he really appreciates that Phoebe is always listening to him so that she can help him, and she seem to get it all and know exactly what is happening.

            “ Old phoebe didn’t say anything, but she was listening. I could tell from the                                               back of her neck that she was listening. She always listens when you tell her something. And the funny part is she knows half the time what the hell you’re talking about.” (Salinger 167)

Phoebe seems to be the only character that we have met so far that really cares about Holden and completely understands him, we can sense that Phoebe knows a lot about Holden and his problems, that’s why she was able to leave him speechless for a lot of time, not even one of his common used excuses could get him out from that situation. Phoebe shares with Holden the passion for dancing and as Holden said he taught her how to dance so that could have give them a deeper connection.

Phoebe is very mature for her age; Holden likes listening to her advice. If we didn’t know the background content that says that Holden is older than Phoebe we would think she’s his older sister instead of his younger sister.

   

I think that Holden really appreciates that Phoebe is always there for him and that she will listen to him or help him with out any interest behind. For example when she lends her Christmas dough to him, she just does it because she likes him, wants to help him and she is worried abut him. This is something that he rely appreciates therefore he doesn’t call her a phony as he always do.

In my book cover I had two images that describe Holden more than the book, however the book is mostly about Holden so I think this would be a good front and back cover.

On my front cover I have a boy representing Holden with a big question mark towards three different doors, this image represents Holden’s life, because he never knows what to do or were to go. As he says when he gets to New York into the cab he is traveling incognito. Which means he doesn’t have a placer were wants to go and doesn’t care much to find a place.  The big question mark on his head also represents the lack of decision he has, he doubts a lot and often he will find himself into a place were he wont know what’s happening.

On my back cover I drew a guy holding a mask, about to wear it. I think this mask can represent the fact that he is really double faced and when he is with his roommates or other people he will “wear this mask” and try to be the tuff guy that doesn’t care about life or the bad moments that he has had to go trough. When he finds himself by his on in the story he takes this mask off and let us see whom he really is. When he opens up to his true character we can see that he is not the negative shameless guy that he tries to be, but he cares and also see good stuff about people, places and objects. For example when he cries because he was leaving pency prep. Or when he was walking in New York saying the “yellow” guy he was.

As I mentioned before my two covers have more to do with Holden than with the them, but I think is a good way to represent the book, because by knowing the main character we know what can we expect from the novel.

Question 3 

a) Why do you think Holden cries before he leaves Pency?

The first chapters of the catcher in the rye talk about the process that Holden is living when he is forced to leave Pency prep his 4th school.

Holden is forced to leave Pency prep because he is falling 4 of his 5 subjects. He got some warnings but he never improved, therefore he got expelled. Holden always critics his school and says that is full with crooks and morons. However something weird happens when he is leaving because he starts crying. 

I think that there are a variety of reasons why Holden cries. First of all I think that Pency prep had become a big part of his live and the fact that he had to leave it behind hurts. Other of my hypothesis would be that he actually liked Pency, although he never says something good about it; this is because he always sees and emphasizes the bad aspects of people, places and things so it would be hard to leave something that you like therefore he was crying.

Although the past reasons are valid and good, personally I tend to lean towards the two following options. The first one is: Holden feels sorry and depressed because he feels he let his mom and family down. He just received a present from home and he said he got depressed. This may be because he feels he let his loved ones down by getting expelled again. The second option and more important from my point of view is that Holden now realizes his lack of accomplishment in life, realizing what a bad life he has lived. Coming back to the First chapter of the book when Holden is having a discussion with his history teacher old Spencer in which he is suggested to take life more seriously and put some effort on it.

Holden is a very special character. Our first impression of him as readers is that he is a negative guy, however if we take a moment and do a close reading will find out that he also states positive aspects about people, places and objects. So this can also apply to his personality, when he tries to be the tuff guy that don’t care about anything he could be a different guy that cares about life and success but wont put effort into it.

In conclusion there is not only one reason but also a variety of them. As I mentioned above personally I tend to lean to the 4^th option but we cant really tell that one was the one. They’re all valid thesis about his moment.

Comin Thro' the Rye

          The poem comin thro' the rye has left an image on my mind of a really unfaithful wife that usually cheats to her husband. When I read the poem with this image in my mind a word always pops out into my head. This word is "Ethics". 

          The tone of the poem is a heavy and painful tone. Somehow we sense a felling of regret and guilt. The fact that Robert Burns uses a field of rye instead of a field of grapes is a symbol for the pain because the rye has sort of spikes so it would heart. The fact that Jenny is dragging her petticoat can tell us that she cant carry it or wear it because it may be a burden for something she did.

The word ethics pops out into my head because I think that she is doing something wrong. The fact that a petticoat is what women used closer to their bodies back I the time, and that she was dragging it instead of wearing it as they were supposed to do, makes me think that she is tempting the man who is at the end of the field of rye.

In class we touched the discussion for who was this man. At first we considered the option of her husband but I am negative to this idea. I think that if he was her husband she wouldn’t have to do such a great effort, like go trough a long field of rye while getting wet.

With some extra background we know that something sexual happened, or is about to happen, however we really don’t know what was it.  Another thing that we know is that someone is waiting for Jenny. But who?

This two facts re what make the poem so interesting and hard to get a complete understanding of it.
